Purpose: Mandate and Role

The BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) was established by the provincial government in 1989 to oversee the BC Transfer System. BCCAT operates by promoting collaboration and enabling important links between the BC post-secondary institutions, the education ministries, and the public and private education sectors.
The mandate of BCCAT is to facilitate admissions, articulation, and transfer among BC post-secondary institutions for the benefit of students. This overarching purpose is achieved by undertaking a variety of responsibilities1, including:
BCCAT operates by promoting collaboration and enabling important links between the BC post-secondary institutions, the education ministries, and the public and private education sectors.
- providing coordination and support for admissions, transfer, and articulation in the BC system;
- promoting student mobility through system-wide collaboration and extensive research on student movement and credit transfer; and
- developing and managing online resources (BCTransferGuide.ca and EducationPlanner.ca) to assist students in their education planning.
The Council takes a collaborative approach to foster an accessible and responsive transfer system.
A wide range of individuals work to support transfer in BC. The people most closely involved with the work of BCCAT are the Council, its committees and sub-committees, institutional contact personnel, and staff members.
