BC Provincial Associate Degree Review

In 2012-13, the Ministry requested that the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) facilitate a provincial review of the associate degree credential. After system-wide consultations, the Steering Committee evaluated the feedback, deliberated on key issues, and submitted a final report to the Ministry. The Ministry accepted the report and accepted in principle the recommendations of the committee.

As a next step, and as requested by the Ministry , BCCAT proceeded with further system consultation in the period September-November 2013; this phase looked at feedback to the recommendations of the report, and considerations for implementation.

In December 2013, BCCAT presented to the Council a report on these consultations and an outline of proposed priorities for implementation of the steering committee’s recommendations. BCCAT staff members will be facilitating the projects and activities outlined in the implementation plan, in collaboration with key post-secondary associates. (See the links below for background information, the report of the Steering Committee, and the finalized implementation plan.)

We would like to take this opportunity to extend our thanks to all of those who participated with the review process. We look forward to ongoing collaboration to support the diverse needs of students moving through the BC post-secondary system.

Dr. Robert Fleming, Executive Director & Co-Chair, BCCAT
Dr. Roger Barnsley, Co-Chair, BCCAT and President Emeritus, Thompson Rivers University
